福建医科大学创建于1937年，是我国建校较早的公立本科医学院校之一。学校是一所以医为主，多学科协调发展，具有完整人才培养体系的福建省“双一流”建设高校，是福建省卫生人才培养中心、医学科学研究中心和医疗卫生服务中心。根据软科“2020中国大学造就杰出医学校友”排名显示，我校位列医药类院校第9名。
学校现有上街、台江2个校区，规划占地约1500亩。设有21个学院（部），28个本科专业，其中国家级特色专业4个。现有硕士学位授权一级学科8个，硕士专业学位授权点6个；临床医学、基础医学、口腔医学、公共卫生与预防医学、药学、护理学等博士学位授权一级学科6个，临床医学、口腔医学等博士专业学位授权点2个，博士点总数位居全国独立设置医学院校第8名。有临床医学和基础医学2个博士后科研流动站，4个博士后工作站，2个院士工作站。我校临床医学学科进入ESI全球排名前3‰。现有国家级重点学科（专科）12个，省级重点学科（专科）56个，拥有肿瘤免疫药物开发国家地方联合工程研究中心、消化道恶性肿瘤教育部重点实验室等72个省部级科研平台。
现有教职医护员工11900多人（含附属医院），专任教师1595人，其中具有博士学位教师占43.7%，教授505人，副教授610人。41人入选国家各类高层次人才，317人次入选省级高层次人才，2人获得“南丁格尔”奖章，2个国家级教学团队。
在校全日制学生16000多人。学校以人才培养为核心任务，是教育部“卓越医生教育培养计划”试点高校。培养的学生以理论功底扎实、实践动手能力强著称，临床医学、口腔医学、预防医学、护理学等专业学生历年参加国家执业医师（护士）资格考试，通过率均名列全国前茅。临床医学专业学生参加全国高等医学院校大学生临床技能比赛连续七年荣获华东赛区一等奖，并在全国比赛中屡获一、二、三等奖，2016年以总分第一名荣获全国总决赛特等奖。我校毕业生广受用人单位欢迎，近年来就业率始终保持较高水平。许多校友成为我国尤其是福建省医疗卫生战线的领军人物和骨干力量。
学校拥有包括附属协和医院和附属第一医院在内的6所直属附属医院，5个临床医学院，15所非直属附属医院，22所临床教学医院，93个专业实践教学基地。附属协和医院、附属第一医院是福建省首批建设高水平医院，连续5年进入香港艾力彼医院管理研究中心“中国医院竞争力·顶级医院百强榜”，并进入复旦大学医院管理研究中心发布的“中国医院百强排行榜”。
学校坚持开放办学，与海内外120多所高校和科研院校开展了多层次、多角度的交流合作。学校自1995年开始招收来华留学学历生。2008年7月成立海外教育学院。2009年获教育部批准开始招收英语授课本科临床医学专业（MBBS）来华留学生。2011年获教育部批准成为中国政府奖学金来华留学生接受院校。2013年通过教育部组织的来华留学生临床医学专业（英语授课）本科教学工作专项检查评估。目前，我校共有来自40多个国家和地区的近400名来华留学生。培养层次涵盖本科和研究生（硕士及博士研究生），授课语言有英语和汉语。

Founded in 1937, Fujian Medical University (FMU) has become a provincial key university for priority development focusing on medicine and paying attention to harmonious development of multiple disciplines, such as science, management, law, arts and engineering. Through over 80 years’ construction and development, it has developed an integral education system offering bachelor's, master's and doctor's degree programs, integrating teaching, scientific research, medical treatment, medical prevention and social services. In addition, the university is regarded as Fujian training center for medical health personnel, Fujian medical science research center and Fujian medicine-based prevention and health care center. The university ranks 9th among China medical colleges and universities in the list of “Ranking of 2020 Outstanding Alumni of China Medical Universities” according to Shanghai Ranking’s Chinese University Rankings.
FMU is located in Fuzhou, with two campuses located at Shangjie and Taijiang respectively, covering a total area of 100 hectares with a floor area of more than 420,000 square meters. FMU has set up 21 schools and provides 28 majors, 4 national characteristic majors included. There are 8 master programs in Level I academic disciplines, 6 master programs in professional disciplines, 6 doctoral programs in Level I academic disciplines and 2 doctoral programs in professional disciplines, and the total number of doctoral programs in our university ranks the 8th among the independent medical colleges in China. FMU has 2 post-doctorate R&D bases (for Clinical Medicine and Basic Medical Sciences), 4 postdoctoral workstation, 2 academician workstation. The clinical medicine discipline ranks among the top 3‰ in the ESI global ranking. Currently, there are 12 national key disciplines (specialized subjects), 56 provincial key disciplines (specialized subjects), and 72 provincial and ministerial scientific research platforms, including the National Joint Engineering Center for Tumor Immunotherapeutic Drug Development and the Key Laboratory of Ministry of Education for Gastrointestinal Cancer.
FMU has full-time teachers of over 1595 and a staff of over 11900 (affiliated hospitals included). Teachers with doctor's degree account for 43.7%, with 505 professors and 610 associate professors. 41 teachers have been selected as national high-level talents. 317 have been selected as provincial high-level talents, and 2 have been awarded the Florence Nightingale Medal. In addition, there are two national level teaching teams in the university.
For now, FMU has over 16,000 students.With talent training as the core task, the university is a pilot university of the "Physician Education and Training Program of Excellence" of the Ministry of Education. Our students are well known for their solid theoretical foundation, strong practical ability, and top-ranked passing rate in the National Medical Practitioner (Nurse) Qualification Examination, especially for those majoring in clinical medicine, stomatology, preventive medicine and nursing. The students majoring in clinical medicine have been awarded the first prize in the east China competition area of National Clinical Skills Competition for College Students of Medical Colleges and Universities for seven consecutive years, and have won the first, second and third prizes in the national competitions for many times. In 2016, they won the special prize in the national final with the highest score. In recent years, the employment rate of graduates in our university has been maintained at a high level, and our graduates are highly recognized by employers. Many alumni have become the leading figures and backbone of the medical and public health fields in China, especially in Fujian Province.
FMU boasts 6 directly affiliated hospitals including the Affiliated Union Hospital and the Affiliated First Hospital, 5 clinical medical colleges, 15 non-directly affiliated hospitals, 22 clinical teaching hospitals and 93 professional practice teaching bases. The Affiliated Union Hospital and the Affiliated First Hospital, as the first batch of high-level hospitals in Fujian Province, have been listed in the "Top 100 Most Competitive Hospitals in China" issued by Hong Kong ASCLEPIUS Hospital Management Research Center for five consecutive years and the "Top 100 Hospitals in China" released by the Hospital Management Research Center of Fudan University.
Fujian Medical University adheres to an open attitude in running schools and has carried out multi-tiered and multi-dimensional exchanges and cooperation with more than 120 universities and research institutes at home and abroad. The university has started the enrollment of international students since 1995. Overseas Education College of FMU was established in July 2008. In 2009, FMU was approved by Ministry of Education to enroll MBBS students. In 2011, after passing the assessment of Ministry of Education, FMU became one of the universities that are entitled to enroll CSC Scholarship students. In 2013, FMU passed the assessment of MBBS teaching program by Special Inspection Team from Ministry of Education. Currently, there are about 400 international students from over 40 countries in FMU. Most of them are enrolled in undergraduate programs or postgraduate programs in clinical medicine that are taught in English or other medical programs taught in Chinese (for CSC Scholarship students).
