As a new hub in Jiujiang, the city with 2200 year history in northern Jiangxi province, Jiujiang University (JJU) is a comprehensive public university under the supervision of Jiangxi Provincial Government and Jiujiang City Government. JJU is located at the foot of Mt. Lushan, a famous site of World Cultural Heritage and World Geopark. The origin of the university can be traced back to 1901 with the establishment of Danforth Memorial Hospital Nursing School, which was founded by Dr. Mary Stone, a missionary of Methodism.
As the second largest university in Jiangxi province, JJU consists of 23 schools with the enrollment of 32,000 undergraduates, graduates and around 370 international students. The university has 2669 staff members and 1950 teachers plus 100 visiting professors at home and abroad.
JJU offers 88 undergraduate programs, covering fields such as science, law, economics, education, fine arts, engineering, medicine, agriculture and management, etc. The university has 22 well-equipped lab centers, providing stutdents with excellent experimental training.
The university has 4 libraries, collecting a total of 3.1 million paper books and 2 million electronic books. More than 100 databases of Chinese and foreign languages are available. The University Affiliated Hospital, with ward beds of 1450, is a tertiary general hospital providing medical services, scientific research and medical education. The University Affiliated Hospital of Dentistry is the only public dentistry hospital in northern Jiangxi province.
In addition to intercollegiate exchange relationships with overseas universities, JJU has developed joint programs and partnerships with 30 higher educational institutes around the globe. The university offers a variety of degree and non-degree programs for international learners. In the recent years, more than1000 foreign students have graduated from the university. JJJU has been recognized by The State Council as a base for Chinese language learning and the Confucius Institute, in collaboration with Royal Academy of Cambodia, is one of the best institutes.
