Hanjiang Normal University is an ordinary college at undergraduate level sponsored by Hubei Provincial People's Government and supervised by Hubei Provincial Education Department. It is located in the emerging motor city- Shiyan city, adjacent to the world cultural heritage of Taoism holy land Wudang mountain and the core water source area of the south-north water diversion Danjiangkou reservoir.

Hanjiang normal university, formerly Yunyangfu normal school in hubei province founded in 1904, began to hold higher education in 1975. The university covers an area of 1076 mu and has a collection of 1.25 million paper books. It has 6 teaching and experimental centers, 109 experimental (practical training) rooms and 152 off-campus practical training bases. Currently, the university has 640 full-time teachers, including 225 professors and associate professors. The university has 11 secondary colleges, such as School of Education, School of Chinese Language and Literature, School of Marxism, School of Foreign Languages, School of History Culture and Tourism，School of Economy and Management，School of Math and Computer Science，School of Physics and Electronic Engineering，School of Chemistry and Environmental Engineering，School of Art and School of P.E. It also has more than 50 junior college majors, covering economics, teaching, arts, history, science, engineering, management, art, sports and other disciplines. There are more than 13,000 full-time students on campus.

The school has formed a pattern of coordinated development based on education major for teachers and education major for non-teachers. Teacher education implements the training mode of "integration before and after work", strengthens the practical teaching link, and trains qualified normal graduates with profound theoretical foundation and solid professional skills. The integration of production and education, with serving local economic and social development as the main line, has made remarkable achievements in inheriting wudang hanshui culture, building a cultural tourism brand, promoting regional industrial transformation, and building an ecological and civilized reservoir area.

Hanjiang Normal University attaches great importance to international cooperation and exchanges, and regularly sends key teachers to different countries for further study, investigation and visit, as Chinese teachers. Many foreign teachers are employed to teach in the school all the year round.
