Baotou Railway Vocational and Technical College was formerly known as Baotou Railway Engineering School set up in 1956. It is the only independent public railway higher vocational college in Inner Mongol Autonomous Region. Baotou Railway Vocational and Technical College is located at No. 7 Ping’an Road , Zhijiaoyuan Area, Jiuyuan District, Baotou City. Now the college covers an area of 500 acres with a building area of 320,000 square meters and a collection of 445,000 books in the library. 85 school training ( lab) rooms with 7000 teaching instruments and equipment which are worth over 61,705,300 in total cover an area of 22,900 square meters. There are also 52 off-campus practice base and there are a total of 10,787 full-time students and a faculty members of 627. Among them there are 11 industry specialists and more than 62% teachers are of intermediate or senior professional titles and 136 have got master and doctoral degree.
      The college focuses on higher vocational education with training function at the same time. Based on a solid foundation of 60-year railway vocational education school running, the school constructs the docking railway industry chain, covering railway engineering construction, transportation management, equipment manufacturing, the key post of railway transportation professional group of passenger and freight service industry chain. In order to meet the needs of regional economic development, the school has built such more tightly bound specializations with local transportation, machinery and logistics industry chain as urban rail transportation, wielding technology and automation, logistics management. And there are 11 categories of 30 majors now, among which, railway engineering technology is the railway model specialty and railway transportation management is declared as the national backbone specialized construction point.
       Since the 60-year establishment, the school insists on the principle of serving the railway and society and the conception of taking market demand as the guide, improving the quality as the core and serving the students as the fundamental. We carry out “order-oriented” training, optimize the mode of cultivating talents, emphasize the teaching quality and strengthen the students’ practical ability and the training of employment competiveness. Those years, we have trained more than 40,000 undergraduates, college and secondary vocational graduates who have been distributed in all kinds of enterprises and institutions in the country.
