Southwest University of Political Science and Law (SWUPL) is located in Chongqing, a famous historical and cultural city and the only municipality in the central and western regions. It is the earliest institution of higher politics and law established in New China. As a university jointly built by Ministry of Education and Chongqing Government, SWUPL is the first batch of legal talents training bases with the qualification of cultivating international students under Chinese government scholarships.
With 70 years of hard work, SWUPL has formed a multi-disciplinary development mode, focusing on law, coordinated with philosophy, economics, literature, management, engineering, etc. And it has formed a multi-level education pattern from undergraduate to postgraduate, from domestic education to international education. Over the past 70 years, it has trained more than 300,000 talents at all levels and various types for the country. It is the country’s largest institution of law-based personnel. More than 70 alumni hold leadership positions above the provincial and ministerial level. There are more than 50 political graduates who have served or currently serve as chief justices, first-level or second-level justices, and chief prosecutors.
SWUPL adheres to the international development strategy. Now it has a large number of international exchange and cooperation programs with more than 160 partner universities from over 40 countries, such as U.S., Canada, United Kingdom, France, Germany, Australia, Japan, Thailand, and South Korea and so on. There are two Chinese-foreign cooperative education programs, including the undergraduate law program at Coventry University in the United Kingdom and the Master of Laws Program at Case Western Reserve University in the United States. It is the only university in the western region that undertakes dual-degree programs for Chinese-foreign cooperative education in academic disciplines.
In 2018, SWUPL’s master's degree of laws was rated as A level by China professional degree assessment of Ministry of Education(MOE), together with Tsinghua University, Wuhan University and Jilin University, becoming the only A level professional degree authorization point in Chongqing. In 2017, in the 4th round of discipline evaluation by MOE, the discipline of law was also evaluated as level A, together with Peking University and Tsinghua University and so on.

    西南政法大学（SWUPL）位于著名历史文化名城、中西部地区唯一的直辖市——重庆，是新中国最早建立的高等政法学府，改革开放后国务院确定的全国首批重点大学，教育部和重庆市人民政府共建高校，国家首批卓越法律人才教育培养基地，来华留学生中国政府奖学金委托培养院校。
    历经70载的励精图治，学校已形成以法学为主，哲学、经济学、文学、管理学、工学等多学科协调发展，从本科到硕士、博士研究生教育以及继续教育、留学生教育等多层次、多类型的人才培养格局。办学70年来，为国家培养了各级各类人才30余万人，是全国培养法治人才最多的高校，有5位校友任中共十九届中央委员、3位校友任中共十九届中央纪委委员，70余位校友担任省部级以上领导职务。曾任或现任国家首席、一级或二级大法官和大检察官的西政毕业生有50余位。
    学校坚持国际化发展战略，与近40个国家和地区的160余所高校或机构建立了交流合作关系，开展130余个学生交流项目。与美国、俄罗斯、加拿大、日本、澳大利亚、比利时、以色列等国知名高校合作举办20余个来华留学生短期学术课程项目。现有英国考文垂大学法学本科教育和美国凯斯西储大学法律硕士项目等两个中外合作办学项目，是西部唯一承办法学学科中外合作办学双学位项目的高校。
