Qiqihar Medical University (QMU), located in the hometown of world-famous red-crowned cranes, stands by the scenic Nenjiang River. The University was founded in 1946 with a glorious history of 71 years. The campus covers a planning area of 1.1 million square meters, of which the building area is 270,000 square meters.
There are 24 teaching and teaching auxiliary institutions in QMU. Currently, QMU boasts a staff of 5,380, including more than 1,010 professors as well as associate professors, of which the full-time teachers with doctor’s and master’s degree account for 86.4%. There are 18,025 students including undergraduate, adult students and foreign students. The undergraduate education program offers 20 majors and disciplinary orientations covering five disciplines: medicine, science, engineering, law and management. Psychiatry is the National First-class Major with distinct characteristics. There are four majors rated as Provincial Key Majors, such as Clinical Medicine, Psychiatry, Pharmacy and Preventive Medicine. The university has provincial high-quality courses, provincial experimental teaching demonstration center, provincial teaching team, provincial innovation experiment area for talent training and provincial A-class research team of education science. QMU has been rated as Heilongjiang Application-oriented University with its own characteristics in 2010 and the First Pilot University of Outstanding Doctor Education Training Project by the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Health in 2012. The university passed Professional Certification of Clinical Medicine in 2013 and Professional Certification of Nursing in 2015 by the Ministry of Education. In 2015, it is also appraised to be National Civilized Unit.
The university has 33 research institutes and possesses Key Construction Lab of Provincial Universities, Post-doctoral Research Workstations, Academician and Experts Workstation, Provincial Key Disciplines and Provincial Leading Talent Echelon.
Three journals are issued by the university---Chinese Modern Nursing, Nervous Diseases and Mental Hygiene and Journal of Qiqihar Medical University, which are issued domestically. Chinese Modern Nursing, Nervous Diseases and Mental Hygiene are the national core periodicals of statistical source.
The university has 4 affiliated hospitals, 7 non-directly affiliated hospitals, 26 teaching hospitals, and 44 practice bases. The affiliated hospitals with 13,227 beds can meet the needs of clinical teaching and practice to the fullest extent. The university is equipped with PET-MR/CT, 3.0T MRI, 256-slice Spiral CT, which is in the leading position in the west of Heilongjiang Province.
The university has conducted cooperation and academic exchanges with some well-known universities and scientific research institutions such as Genetics and Biotechnology Center in the United States, Japan, Russia, Australia, and Philippines. Our university is the Training Base of Practicing Skills on Chinese Physician Humanistic Medicine, the Qiqihar Base of Ministry of Health Personnel Training Center, the General Medicine Training Center of Heilongjiang Province, the Training Base of Rural Health Providers of Heilongjiang Province, the Job-transfer Training Base of the General Practitioners of Heilongjiang Province, the Standardization Training Office of the Residents of Heilongjiang Province and the Test Center of the Standardization Training for the Residents of Heilongjiang Province.
