Yunnan University was founded in 1922, when it was Private Donglu University. In 1938, it was renamed as National Yunnan University. It is one of the earliest comprehensive universities in Southwest China. Currently, Yunnan University has 26 schools, ten research institutes, an affiliated hospital and a graduate school. Yunnan University now has 3023 faculty members, including 2582 professional and technical posts. The University, covering an area of 300 hectares, is divided into Chenggong Campus and Donglu Campus, with a public floor area of more than 1million square meters, asset value of more than 938 million yuan for teaching and scientific research instruments and equipment, and a collection of more than 3,820,000 books in the library. The campus network is the main node of CERNET in Yunnan.
It has 79 majors in undergraduate programs, 12 state-level featured majors, Seventeen undergraduate majors were selected into the national "Double Ten Thousand" Plan, and 13 majors were selected into the provincial "Double Ten Thousand" Plan. The university has formed a comprehensive university featuring ethnology, ecology, biology, characteristic resource development and environmental protection, as well as frontier issues and international issues in Southeast Asia and South Asia. Based on geographical advantages, the school continuously strengthens international cooperation and exchanges.
