Xishuangbanna Vocational and Technical College (XVTC), with its establishment being approved by the People's Government of Yunnan Province and filed with the Ministry of Education of the People's Republic of China, is a state-run institution of higher vocational and technical education with independent operating qualifications. As one of Yunnan's pilot colleges and universities oriented to the implementation of the province's "going-global" strategy and one of its bases for training international talents with practical skills, it has been awarded the provincial-level honorable titles of the “Outstanding Unit” and the “Advanced Unit” on account of its excellence in promoting employment of graduates. XVTC is listed in the first batch of Yunnan's provincial-level exemplary institutions of higher vocational education.

XVTC occupies an area of 200 mu (approx. 13.3 ha.) and its new campus with an area of more than 2,000 mu (approx. 133.3 ha.) is under construction. Currently, it has 8,411 registered students inclusive of 364 international students and 374 teaching and administrative staff members, including 274 full-time teachers.

 XVTC is a testing center for state-level computer rank examinations and English and HSK tests. Housing a national professional qualification appraisal unit named the 124 Professional Qualification Appraisal Office of Yunnan Province, it serves as the base for training tourist professionals financially supported by the central government, the Chinese Conservatory of Music’s teaching and practice base featuring Xishuangbann’s ethnic and folk music and the provincial-level demonstrative training and practice base of South Asian languages aided by a teaching and research office of the aforesaid languages financially supported by the provincial government. Now, XVTC has established its multi-type, multi-level and multidimensional practical training and practice system involving its internal and external boosters comprised of foreign and corporate, industrial and rural sectors.
