Zhengzhou Railway Vocational and Technical College was founded in 1951, and once held undergraduate education from 1958 to 1963. In 1999, approved by the Ministry of Education, the former Zhengzhou Railway Machinery School, Zhengzhou Railway Health School, Zhengzhou Railway Normal School and Zhengzhou Railway Education Institute merged into Zhengzhou Railway Vocational and Technical College. In 2005, the administration of the college was transfer to Henan provincial government from the Ministry of Railways. The college is the first independent higher vocational education institute set up in the national railway system, and also the only public transit vocational colleges in Henan province. For its outstanding education quality, the college was approved as the national key vocational colleges in 2010 and was identified as construction unit of the national high quality vocational college in Henan province in 2017.
The college covers an area of 73 hectares and is divided into four campuses. It is the home of 20000 students, 258 staff and 647 full-time teaching faculty members including 16 provincial academic leaders and prominent teachers. Among the full-time teachers, 27.8% enjoy vice-senior and above professional titles. Meanwhile, 69% of young teachers have master degrees or postgraduate degrees. And more 500 technicians from enterprises are employed as part-time teachers. Today the college has 16 schools(departments) and 68 programs covering 6 major disciplines: engineering, medicine, literature, management, economics and arts. The college not only has forged strong features of track transport education and medical education, but also hosts competent humanity and art education
In recent years, the nation has made great efforts to promote the construction of high speed rail and subway, and it is urgently needed for a large number of high-quality technical and skilled personnel. Upholding the national strategy, the college does its best to strengthen the intensive construction, and focus on innovation, features, and quality of education. Up to now, great achievements have been achieved in the teaching reform, school-enterprise cooperation, and international exchange. 3 programs are evaluated as the national level demonstrative transportation programs, and 1 program is evaluated as the national level demonstrative health program in vocational colleges.
