Chengdu University of Technology (CDUT) was originally established in 1956 and had been under the administration of the Ministry of Geology, the Ministry of Geology and Mineral Resources, and the Ministry of Land and Resources respectively by 2000. In 2000, it became a provincial key university co-constructed by the central and local governments, mainly administrated by Sichuan Provincial People’s Government. In 2010, the Ministry of Land and Resources and Sichuan Provincial People’s Government signed an agreement on co-construction of Chengdu University of Technology. In 2017, CDUT was listed as one of the universities for the national initiative of “World-Class Disciplines” construction.
With the construction and development over 60 years, CDUT has become a multi-disciplinary polytechnic university, strong in geology, energy, resource science, nuclear technology and environment science, and characterized by chemical engineering, materials, electronics, mechanics, information technology and management science.
CDUT has 2 state key laboratories which are the State Key Laboratory of Geohazard Prevention and Geoenvironment Protection, and the State Key Laboratory of Oil and Gas Reservoir Geology and Exploitation. CDUT also has 1 key laboratory co-constructed by the MOE and Sichuan Province, 2 key laboratories of the Ministry of Natural Resources, 1 state key laboratory of environmental protection, 5 field observation and research bases of the Ministry of Land and Resources (MLR).
CDUT has two campuses in Chengdu and Yibin. Chengdu campus is situated in downtown Chengdu with convenient transportation condition. Presently, there are 36,705 full-time students, including 30,788 undergraduates and 5,601 full-time postgraduates. In addition to an independent college (Engineering & Technical College of CDUT), CDUT is now running 18 colleges and 2 research institutes (Sedimentary Geology Research Institute and Geological Survey Institute).
At CDUT, the disciplines of earth science and engineering science have ranked among top 1% of the world ESI ranking and the disciplinary group of earth science has been listed on national “Double first-class” (world-class universities and disciplines) initiative.
CDUT owns a natural museum featuring geology collections and enjoying a high reputation across China and Chengdu Natural Museum jointly built by Chengdu City and CDUT is expected to be completed in 2021. CDUT has 2 libraries with 2.4 million printed books, 102 digital databases, 4.3 million e-books and 49,000 e-journals.
CDUT gives high priority to external cooperation and communication.
