Founded in 1979 in accordance with the directive of comrade Deng Xiaoping, Guizhou Radio and TV University (the “University”) is a higher education institution sponsored by the People’s Government of Guizhou Province with the approval of the Ministry of Education. In 2008, Guizhou Vocational Technology Institute was established, which was operated by the same management team and faculties and staff of Guizhou Radio and TV University. They are two new-type universities integrating open education, vocational education, and life-long education.
Conveniently situated in beautiful Guiyang city, the University has three campuses on Bageyan Road, Yuntan South Road and Yan'an West Road, which covers an area of 639.9 mu and has a building area of nearly 200,000 square meters. There are 519 faculty members in the University, including 133 teachers with senior professional titles, accounting for 44.6% of full-time teachers; 185 teachers with a doctor’s or a master’s degree, accounting for 62.1% of full-time teachers; 154 “double-position teachers”, accounting for 51.68% of full-time teachers. The University boasts 5 provincial-level star teachers, builds up a part-time teacher database consisting of more than 500 professionals, and engages 7 foreign teachers from the United States and the United Kingdom in undertaking frontline teaching work. Our teachers have been awarded a number of honorary titles including “National Outstanding Teacher”, “The Sixth Huang Yanpei Award for Outstanding Vocational Education Teacher”, “Outstanding Teacher in Guizhou Province”, and March 8th’ Red-banner Holder in Guizhou Province”. The library has nearly 430,000 paper books and e-books of over 10,000 GB. In the University, there are standardized stadiums and halls, an advanced remote education information platform, an interactive teaching platform, abundant online teaching resources, and a complete learning support service system. The University has 19 on-campus practical training bases and 220 off-campus practical training bases. The 100th National Vocational Skills Appraisal Institute in Guizhou Province is located in the University, which can carry out 67 kinds of primary, middle and senior-level vocational appraisals inside and outside the University. The University has evolved into a new-type modern university with complete facilities, complete functions, advanced equipment, and a beautiful environment.
The University has established 10 TV university branches and 87 workstations in the cities and prefectures across the Guizhou province and in various industries, forming a remote education system covering the whole province. With the purpose of focusing on the growth in Guizhou and serving local economic and social development, the University has been continuously expanding the field of schooling, building a platform for school-government-enterprise cooperation, and innovating talent training models. Currently, the University has established 91 open education undergraduate majors and 34 higher vocational education majors, focusing on the development of four provincial-level backbone majors in e-commerce, construction engineering technology, tourism management, and software technology, and two school-level backbone majors in art design, machinery manufacturing and automation, and 3 provincial-level key discipline groups in modern commodity circulation, modern construction engineering, and tourism services and management have been formed. Now there are over 96,000 students of various types studying in the University, including 14,215 students in higher vocational education, and since its founding, over 460,000 college students have graduated. Among them, the initial employment rate of higher vocational education graduates is above the average level of the province . The number of the students receiving non-academic continuing education has exceeded 1.5 million. The University has become an important base for cultivating high-quality technical personnel and highly skilled workforce across the Guizhou Province.
