Brief Introduction of SPU
Shenyang Pharmaceutical University (SPU), situated in the city of Shenyang, has been known for its long history and leadership role in China’s pharmaceutical academic field. From the time it was founded in 1931 as the Red Army Health School until now, the university has developed into a comprehensive Pharmaceutical University, owning three campuses and covering a total of 1,434,500 square meters.
SPU has 20 undergraduate programs, 5 of which are national characteristic specialties. 58 programs are entitled to the conferment of master’s degrees (with another 4 professional degree conferring entitlements) and 21 programs are entitled to the conferment of doctoral degrees. Besides, the university has two post-doctoral research stations, Pharmacy and Traditional Chinese Pharmacy. The discipline of pharmaceutics is one of the national key disciplines, while the discipline of pharmacy and traditional Chinese pharmacy is among the list of provincial key disciplines. According to ESI 2016, the university ranks 89 nationwide and 1601 worldwide. Three disciplines--pharmacology, toxicology and pharmaceutics--win the first at home and remain top 1% across the world.
SPU is proud of its outstanding faculty, including 114 professors. The faculty has won various titles and awards: one member of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, one distinguished professor of “Chang Jiang Scholars Program”, one winner of national “Recruitment Program of Global Experts (1,000 Talent Plan)”, one member of the national disciplinary review group of Pharmacy, 3 winners of “New Century National Thousand Talents Project”, 10 winners of “Special Government Allowance”, 1 National teaching expert, and 19 Provincial teaching experts.
SPU is known for its strong academic atmosphere and in-depth scientific research. The university has founded a national platform, 8 ministry-level key labs, 25 province-level key labs and one province-level innovative platform. Ever since the implementation of “Twelfth Five Year” Plan, SPU has undertaken 889 projects of all levels, in which 214 are national level projects and have been endowed with 293 million Yuan. In addition, SPU has won 1 Second National Science-Technology Progress Prize and 9 ministerial-level Prizes. The researchers have attained 495 national patents 10 PCT patents and 10 international patents. 6 new drugs have been approved for clinical research. More than 70 monographs and translations were published. The number of research papers published is 2,566 indexed by SCI, ranking top among Chinese pharmaceutical universities. It is worth mentioning that the paper published in Nature Nanotechnology (IF=34) for the first time in history reveals that carbon nanotubes significantly antagonized psychic dependence of methylamphetamine.
Industry-Academy-Research cooperation is one of the principles that SPU adheres to. The university has signed 1066 trade and technology contracts with 460 well-known enterprises, involving up to 275 million Yuan, in which 139 million has arrived in account. All together, the university has provided 100 innovative products and 581 technical services for enterprises. Except for the projects undertaken, the university has also signed strategic cooperation agreement with famous pharmaceutical enterprises and co-constructed laboratories, with the hope to build long-term cooperation relationship with the enterprises.
Not only is cooperation established between SPU and enterprises within the country, but it is also developed between the university and institutions from US, Japan, Britain or Russia.Overseas well-known experts are invited to give lectures or participate in cooperative scientific research projects each year. SPU faculty members and students participate in various international academic exchange programs and foreign students from various countries and regions come to SPU for academic exchange.
