Nanjing is a significant birthplace of Chinese civilization and has long been the political, economic and cultural center in Southern China. Throughout history, it has played an important role in preserving the legitimate royal lineage of China. Evidence has proved that there were human activities as early as 1-1.2 million years ago, and Nanjing has a history of more than 7,000 years as a civilization and nearly 500 years as a capital city.


Nanjing is a significant center of research and education in China. It has been a city that values and attaches importance to education since ancient times. Hence, it was praised as “the center of culture in China” and the city with “top university in the southeast China”. As of 2020, there are 68 higher education institutions in Nanjing, ranking the third after Beijing and Shanghai. Among the top 20 global research cities, Nanjing ranks 8th in the world and 3rd in China.

Xiaoling Mausoleum of Ming Dynasty

As the foremost imperial mausoleum of Ming and Qing dynasties, Xiaoling represents the highest achievement of architecture and stone carving art in the early Ming Dynasty, which has a direct influence on the layout and specifications of over 20 imperial mausoleums in the two dynasties for more than five centuries. It was known as “the first and best imperial mausoleum of Ming and Qing dynasties”.

Sun Yat-sen Mausoleum

Sun Yat-sen Mausoleum is located in Zhongshan Mountain National Park at the southern foot of Zijin Mountain in Xuanwu District, Nanjing. It consists of the mausoleum of Dr. Sun Yat-sen, the forerunner of China’s great democratic revolution in modern times, and group of accompanying commemorative buildings.

Jiming Temple

With a history of over 1,700 years, Jiming Temple is one of the oldest Buddhist temples and royal temples in Nanjing. The temple has never lost its popularity, or as the Chinese put it, the incense in it has been burning fervently and never been extinguished. It was praised as “the prime temple of the Southern Dynasties” and the top among “four hundred and eighty temples of the Southern Dynasties” when Nanjing was the Buddhist center in China.
