The City of Magic

Shanghai is a center for China’s economy, finance, trade, shipping, commerce, upstream manufacturing and opening up.

Shanghai is a showpiece of China’s booming economy. After the city opened its port to trade, many residents of neighbouring provinces and foreigners moved in. Thanks to it, the traditional Wuyue culture of Jiangnan met the diverse cultures brought in by migrants and fused with the modern Western culture in the city, which gave rise to the local Haipai culture.

Featuring several architectural styles such as Art Deco and shikumen, the city is renowned for its Lujiazui skyline, museums and historic buildings including Chenghuang Temple, Yu Garden, the China Pavilion and buildings along the Bund, which includes Oriental Pearl TV Tower.

Shanghai is also known for its sugary cuisine, distinctive dialect and vibrant international flair.
